Description

The 53 acres of the Goldendale Golf Club were purchased from Jess Allyn by Clifford Dugger. The original 3007 yard layout was designed by Jack Rutledge, a golf pro at the Hood River Valley Club and built by a group of 40 local men led by Z. O. Brooks in 1924. They actually played the course the day after dragging the fairways with a series of horse drawn teams. For one year these men dedicated one day a week to work on the original project. The Bloodgood Creek played an important role in the early development by providing both irrigation water and playing challenges on the 4th and 9th holes. Today the original routing is basically intact although the course had sand greens until 1959 when they were changed to grass. Dean Gillenwater donated the materials and labor to install the irrigation system necessary for this important improvement. In 1977, a number of tress and sand bunkers were added to the course. The clubhouse was an existing farmhouse moved to the site in 1929 and has seen a variety of additions over the years. During the late 1950's Darrell Mason was responsible for orchestrating a clubhouse remodel using equipment, labor and materials from the John Day Dam construction project. In 1978 Rod Carlson, who was the Golf Club's first resident PGA Professional, added the present golf shop.

The Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws were signed in 1947 by the original trustees of Wm.
